“Accept what life offers you and try to drink from every cup. All wines should be tasted; some should only be sipped, but with others, drink the whole bottle.”
― Paulo Coelho, Brida
Welcome to my little haven of food and wine adventures!
I’m a full-time student and part-time employed at a bottle shop, who has developed the opinion that a good bottle of wine is served best with good company! I like to eat and try new wines a fair bit and am often interested to try new things in general. For 21 years old owning 20 bottles of wine is a little excessive so I hope this blog will help me to whittle away at my little stash which is quickly running out of room!
As you will hear from me time and time again I adore red wine – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Shiraz (not too peppery) are my favourites. For a white I can rarely go wrong with a Chenin Blanc, Riesling or a good buttery, and oaky Chardonnay (think American rather than Australian, which tend to be fruity and zesty). A sweet wine is also enjoyed from time to time (especially in the summer months chilled over ice or to finish off a nice meal). Sparkling however, is a more recently acquired taste, one which is still young and being developed as I presently cannot fully appreciate some of the more dryer sparkling wines.
Ideally I would love to enjoy and try wines from all over the globe but unfortunately my student budget does not allow for such a dream. Instead I presently have the little corner of the world, know as Southwest Western Australia which includes Mt Barker, Frankland River, Pemberton, Margaret River – as well as the surrounding areas to these regions – to keep me entertained for the mean while. This region is host to honestly more than enough wineries to allow me to develop my appreciation and knowledge of wines as well as to allow me to keep me sampling and discovering new wines and wineries for decades to come! I guess I can’t complain too much…
So if you made it to the end of this please come join me as I continue this venture and feel free to recommend to me new places to eat at and wines to enjoy!
